CHARLIE SWAY

Charlie is fascinated by the senses as primal connection points with artistic ideas.  She has been developing this genre through her company, Roundangle, since 2004.  “Body Banquets” was commissioned by Burning Seed 2014.  “Fright” was commissioned by Theatreworks for the Festival of Live art in 2012 and 2014.  “The Museum of Imagined Touch” (Polyglot, February 2014) was the 3rd project developed with deafblind artists, following on from the success of her first independent show, “Source/Sauce” in 2006 (Visionary Award, Go Full Tilt Arts Centre Award and The Melbourne International Arts Festival Award at the Melbourne Fringe Festival); and “In the Dark” (2009).  “Potion” featured at Red Gallery in 2013 - a fine dining experience featuring the scents of the seven deadly sins.  In 2012 she collaborated with Carbon Arts to create a series of special events focusing on native foods.  She has presented work with the Melbourne International Food Festival and in partnership with the Melbourne Museum; “Tasting Treasure” (2010) and “Family Garden Food” (2009).  She has toured nationally and internationally with this sensory specialisation, working and training with companies such as Teatro de los Sentidos (Barcelona), Cynefin (Wales), The National Singapore Museum, Well Theatre’s “Big Wall of Books” in Mexico.  “Deceased Estate”  (2008) won the Melbourne International Arts Festival Award at the 2008 Melbourne Fringe.  She was awarded an Arts Innovation Grant to work with smell diffusion technology company, Air Aroma, in 2008.  She has presented large scale shows and small intimate experiences which integrate her interest in touch, scent, food, food security, sustainability and how we engage with the world.  She has also been a partner in theatre company, Our Planet Enterprises, focusing on sustainability education.  She is now integrating her sensory experience in the world of the erotic and is a Certified Sexological Bodyworker and Fetish Escort.
